THE BETTER DAYS TOOLKIT
Wellness Programming
Brought Home
Our wellness-centered framework guided the creation of The Better Days Toolkit. The goal is simple: to make each day better. It supports our companions in creating intentional & personalized experiences that feel meaningful.
THE BETTER DAYS DIFFERENCE
The Social Experience of Aging.
Traditional home care meets essential medical and personal needs, but often leaves little room for meaningful connection. Better Days was created for something different: enhancing the social experience of aging.
Meaningful companionship isn’t about filling time or completing tasks. It’s about connection, shared experiences and allowing a genuine relationship to grow.
That’s why we prioritize consistency, thoughtful matching and the same trusted companion three times each week. Because when connection is the purpose it creates a different approach to aging.
Traditional Model
- Medically focused
- Task focused
- Coverage driven
- Staffing changes
- Scheduling over connection
Better Days Approach
- Relationship first
- Consistency building trust
- Social wellbeing by design
- Purpose through experiences
- Personalized to the individual
OUR COMMITMENT
Thoughtful Growth.
Intentional Relationships.
Meaningful connection takes time. That’s why Better Days is intentionally built around three visits each week with the same trusted companion.
Consistency creates familiarity, trust and the opportunity for a relationship to grow. Each visit builds on the last, creating a deeper understanding of what brings someone energy, curiosity, purpose, and joy.
We grow thoughtfully so we can protect what matters most: the quality of the relationship and the experience it creates. Sometimes that means growing more slowly or maintaining a waitlist to ensure the right match.
This service is meeting a need that has been overlooked for far too long.
There's so much life still left to live!
This is the future of aging well at home.
I have something to look forward to again.

Frequently Asked Questions About Better Days - Companion Care for Seniors
-
Better Days was created from a simple belief: every older adult deserves to feel purpose, connection, and meaning woven into their everyday life. Not someday. Not occasionally. Every day. For too long, support for seniors has been defined by checklists. Tasks to complete. Schedules to follow. Boxes to tick. But older adults are not tasks. They are people with histories, passions, humour, wisdom, and a deep need for belonging. That is why our approach is different.
At Better Days, human connection sits at the center of everything we do. Our work is not about oversight. It is about adding value to someone’s life. We hire with intention, choosing companions who are not only skilled but genuinely aligned with our mission. And we match with intention, too, pairing each senior with someone who can build a relationship that grows over time and enriches both of their lives. Unlike traditional home care and companionship companies, where different staff may arrive each time, we prioritize consistency. The same companion returns again and again, allowing trust, comfort, and familiarity to deepen naturally.
Through The Better Days Method™, we elevate companionship into something far more meaningful. We bring purpose driven wellness programming, enrichment activities, and lifestyle support directly into the home, creating moments that spark joy, curiosity, and connection.
This is relationship-centered support. A model built on emotional wellbeing, meaningful engagement, and long term sustainability. Because when we restore passion, we restore purpose. When we nurture connection, we nurture life. And when we build relationships with intention, better days do not just happen. They become the new normal.
In short: It starts with the right people. It continues with intentional matching and wellness-centered engagement. And it results in meaningful, relationship driven experiences that feel nothing like traditional home care.

At Better Days, a companion caregiver brings far more than oversight—they bring purpose, connection, and support. When we first meet, we complete a detailed Identity Profile, which helps us learn about the individual’s history, preferences, routines, interests, and what makes their days feel meaningful. This becomes the foundation for everything we do. Each time a caregiver arrives, they draw on this understanding to shape the day together. Instead of following a task list, The Better Days Method™ is our signature wellness-centered philosophy and toolkit, designed to support the whole person emotionally, socially, physically, intellectually, spiritually, and occupationally, and to guide gentle prompting, meaningful engagement, and support with basic daily needs.
A visit may include a neighborhood walk, creative or reminiscing activities, attending a community event, reading or learning something new, participating in faith-based rituals, or hands-on tasks like gardening, meal prep, or light organizing.
Caregivers also provide gentle reminders, hydration and meal support, medication prompting, mobility encouragement and environmental oversight, to help maintain a comfortable and safe home environment.
Every visit is personalized — shaped by who the person is, what they enjoy most in life.

No. Better Days Living is a wellness centered companionship service, not a medical or clinical provider. Our companions are not nurses, PSWs, or home health aides. They are carefully chosen relationship builders who support older adults through purposeful engagement, gentle prompting, and everyday wellness routines, all grounded in our six wellbeing pillars. They are people who have a genuine interest in working with older adults and who bring warmth, curiosity, and presence into every visit.
While we do not provide medical care, we do support many of the daily rhythms that help someone feel comfortable and well at home. This includes choosing clothing, cueing for tooth brushing, hydration and meal support, medication prompting, light tidying, and helping maintain a calm and organized environment. Everything we do is centered on working with the person, not doing tasks for them.
Families who also require medical or personal care services are encouraged to explore those supports alongside Better Days Living. We often work in tandem with external medical providers, therapists, and home care teams so that older adults receive both the clinical care they need and the meaningful engagement we provide. Our companions can be present during visits from other professionals, or we can schedule around them, ensuring the individual’s day feels coordinated, calm, and supported. Our role is to complement clinical care by adding purpose, joy, and human connection to the practical services someone may already receive.

At Better Days, our companion caregivers are not chosen by chance — they are chosen with extraordinary intention. Our co-founders personally lead every step of the recruitment process because we believe the people who walk into an older adult’s home shape the entire experience. This is our secret sauce, and we protect it fiercely. We never hire to fill a schedule. If we don’t meet the right person, we simply don’t hire.
What we look for can’t be taught in a training manual. We look for heart, presence, curiosity, emotional maturity, and the ability to form genuine relationships. We look for people who can sit with someone, listen deeply, and enrich a day simply by being themselves.
Our companions come from a wide range of backgrounds, including therapeutic recreation, fitness and movement, gerontology, the arts, and individuals with rich lived experiences who naturally uplift others. While we welcome applicants with PSW-type experience, that is not what defines our team. We prioritize people who can build trust, spark joy, and support well-being across our six wellness pillars.
We also recruit differently. We actively partner with educational institutions to connect with mature students studying recreation, aging, health, business and the arts, individuals who bring fresh energy, purpose, and a desire to make a meaningful impact. And we intentionally seek out retirees who want to continue contributing, stay engaged, and find purpose through meaningful work with older adults. These intergenerational perspectives enrich our team and create beautiful, natural matches.
Finally, we believe that great care requires stability. That’s why we compensate our companions thoughtfully and design roles for long-term, sustainable employment. When caregivers feel valued and supported, they stay — and that consistency allows older adults to build a trusting, lasting relationship with someone who truly knows them.
Our companions aren’t just workers. They are carefully chosen partners in creating better days — one meaningful interaction at a time.

Our matching process begins with a simple belief: to support someone well, you must first understand what’s missing in their life and what lights them up. Before we introduce a companion or even recruit for one, we spend time learning who that individual is through a detailed Identity Profile. We explore their history, personality, communication style, daily rhythms, and most importantly, the things that bring them purpose and excitement.
Some people crave conversation. Others miss creativity. Some long for movement, routine, or a sense of wanting to add value like they once did. Some simply want someone who understands them, and some desire to engage in something new together. This understanding becomes the foundation for every match we make. From there, we look for a companion whose temperament, energy, and natural way of connecting align with what the person needs more of in their life. We’re not matching based on availability; we’re matching based on connection. Someone who can restore joy where it has faded, spark curiosity where it has quieted, or bring steadiness where life feels overwhelming.
If we don’t have the right person, we don’t force a match — we recruit. With 30+ years of combined experience building teams to support older adults, our co-founders know exactly what it takes to do this work well. We either see that in someone, or we don’t. There is no in between. We find individuals with the emotional maturity, warmth, and presence required for this work. Because we keep our team small and carefully chosen, every match feels natural, supportive, and grounded in genuine connection. The goal isn’t to place someone in the home, but rather to create a relationship that restores meaning and makes each day better!
-
We design every schedule around what will genuinely support the older adult, not what is easiest for the staff. Because meaningful engagement takes time, we do not offer quick drop ins or task based visits. Our companion sessions are a minimum of three hours, giving space for real connection, unhurried activities, and the natural rhythms that help someone feel grounded and well.
This time frame allows companions to settle in, follow the person’s pace, and engage in experiences that matter, whether that is a walk, a creative project, a shared meal, or simply being together without rushing. It also ensures there is room for gentle prompting, wellness focused routines, and support with basic daily needs in a way that feels calm and respectful.
We work with each family to create a schedule that reflects their goals, whether that means a few visits a week or more frequent ongoing support. What we prioritize is consistency. A familiar face and a predictable routine are essential for trust, comfort, and emotional well being. Older adults thrive on stability, and we honour that.
Longer, steady visits also support our companions. By offering meaningful shifts rather than fragmented hours, we are able to retain exceptional team members who value this work and can commit to being a reliable presence in someone’s life. It is a model that honours both sides of the relationship, and that is why it works.
-
We stand behind every match we make, and we take your feedback seriously. If at any point the fit doesn't feel right, we encourage an open conversation—we'll listen, reassess, and work with you to find a companion who is a better fit. Protecting the quality and consistency of every relationship is central to what we do.

Getting started is simple. It begins with a conversation. This is an opportunity for you to share what’s happening, what you are currently experiencing and navigating, and what kinds of supports might help.
Our co-founders bring many years of experience navigating the local healthcare system, and we’re always happy to be a resource along the way. Aging is rarely linear; it shifts, changes, and sometimes surprises families, and it deserves a careful, thoughtful approach. We will always do our best to help you navigate the system and the emerging situation carefully and thoughtfully. We bring that perspective to every conversation, whether we work with you or not. We want to help each family figure out the best next steps for their personal situation. You can reach out through our contact form or by phone, and we’ll take the time to listen and understand before suggesting any next steps.
We are here to support!
